2/25/2023 0 Comments Deer hunter 2004Doe!Īs I was walking around the wilderness, I thought to myself “It’d be cool if I came across some abandoned shack or something”. I was initially confused about how to activate the rifle scope and accidently fired a round when two deers were nearby. Moving around is standard WASD with mouselook. The interface is reasonably easy to figure out, as is bringing up your inventory. I didn’t recognize the 3D engine so I assume it was built in-house. Overall nothing to write home about but a major improvement over the original Deer Hunter game (which I believe was 2D). I suppose it’s purposely quiet so you can hear hoofsteps. Seems like there should be more wildlife ambience (no crickets in Kansas?). Basically the game does a good job of giving you that outdoors-in-the-middle-of-nowhere experience, though I’m a little disappointed with the audio. And I think I saw a coyote through the binoculars. Besides deer, other wildlife include birds and squirrel, and a rideable horse (you can’t shoot your horse, which the game refers to as a “vehicle”). The demo features a hunting ground in Kansas, where you hunt deer (duh). I have to admit, standard Deer Hunter prejudice aside, this is a pretty nice demo.
